Incoterms (International Commercial Terms), or International Trade Rules - a set of international rules, defining the terms of sale use of which is widely accepted around the world. Those rules divide the costs and responsibilities between buyer and seller and reflect the type of transport agreed. Incoterms relate to the United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods. Were published in 1936, it has repeatedly amended. Currently, the version (from 1 January 2011) is Incoterms 2010, which replaced the Incoterms 2000.
INCOTERMS:
- force for the circulation of material goods
- their use is optional
- apply only to the exporter and importer - from their use are excluded freight forwarders, transport companies
- standards of the law governing the contract in question shall take precedence over INCOTERMS
Incoterms deal with issues related to transport product from the seller to the buyer. This includes transportation of products liability settlement export and import costs, including transport and insurance, transfer of risk for the condition of products at different points in the transport process. Incoterms are always used in combination with geographical location and do not deal with the transfer of property rights.
The rules are recommended and published by the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC). The official version of Incoterms 2000 is the original English text that has been approved by the Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL) United Nations. Authorized translations into 31 languages are available from ICC national committees.

Standardized to a length of 20 feet (a 20-foot container = 1 TEU) can also have a length of 30, 40 or 45 feet. Currently, containers are the most popular carrier in the transport unit, both land and sea, through the ease of handling and transport.
